SystemMen - Introduction to InfluxDB time series database. In this article, I will introduce you to InfluxDB.

There are many people who have never heard of this type of database.

What is time series database?

Introduction to InfluxDB time series database.

You may have worked with database software such as MySQL, MariaDB, MSSQL server.

You may be familiar with these types of databases, now, when you hear the time series database, are you wondering what kind of database it is?

I would like to quote from InfluxDB.

A time series database (TSDB) is a database optimized for time-stamped or time series data. Time series data are simply measurements or events that are tracked, monitored, downsampled, and aggregated over time.

You can understand that, when data is stored, data is labeled with its time. And when querying data, we will use that timestamp. It is like the type of indexing in other database types.

What is InfluxDB? And what is it for?

As mentioned at the beginning of the article, InfluxDB is a time series database.

So what is it for?

Please allow the information from InfluxDB again.

InfluxDB is meant to be used as a backing store for any use case involving large amounts of timestamped data, including DevOps monitoring, application metrics, IoT sensor data, and real-time analytics.

Personally, I used InfluxDB to install a monitoring system for my Linux servers, especially monitoring Zimbra mail systems.

You see, there are many large applications and smart applications that use database time series like InfluxDB to track.

So should you try to use it? I think you should also learn about it.

You can learn more about the main features of InfluxDB here.

Also, you might hear more about another time series database software, Prometheus. This is also a quite popular software today. I will write some future articles about it.

The article is only a general introduction to you about InfluxDB. It cannot fully present every aspect of this software. You can learn it more in my next articles on this site.
